Terroir

Languedoc

Languedoc is a vast laboratory of terroirs, but the best wines often come from areas where the topography moderates the heat. Terraces of the Larzac, Pic Saint-Loup, schist, sandstone, limestone, altitude, cool nights: all these elements allow Mediterranean grape varieties to maintain their tension. Carignan, Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Macabeu, and Grenache Blanc acquire a particular depth when harvested with restraint.

A sommelier's eye seeks structure rather than power. Reds should have grain, length, and a well-structured body without dry extraction. Whites and macerated wines can be remarkable when they retain delicate bitterness, garrigue aromas, and a clean palate. Natural sparkling wines or cuvées without added sulfites make sense if balance takes precedence over following trends.

The Vignerons de Nature selection champions a Languedoc region of high altitudes, poor soils, and meticulous winemakers. This region allows for the production of generous yet easy-drinking natural wines, perfect for pairing with grilled meats, roasted vegetables, lamb, cheeses, vegetarian cuisine, or Mediterranean-inspired dishes.
