Rhône

The Rhône Valley is a land of contrasts. In the north, the granite slopes give Syrah a peppery, floral, sometimes smoky expression, with a tension not found in the sunnier areas. In the south, Grenache, Mourvèdre, Cinsault, Clairette, Marsanne, and Roussanne thrive on the pebbles, sand, clay, and limestone to produce wines that are broader, but not necessarily heavier.

The most interesting Rhône wines today are those that master their generosity. The reds should retain their vibrancy, fine tannins, a sensation of lively fruit, and a finish that doesn't tire the palate. The whites deserve a proper place at the table: noble bitterness, fleshiness, floral notes, dried herbs, sometimes a touch of salinity when they come from limestone soils or well-balanced harvests.

In the Vignerons de Nature selection, the region is approached through balance: careful harvesting, gentle extraction, aging that respects the fruit, and wines free from aromatic embellishment. It is a major wine region for those seeking natural wines capable of intensity without sacrificing drinkability.
